Monthly Update 1/19/2020

Monthly Update – January 19, 2020

Sadly, Mother Nature was not our friend this year and the Allen Soccer Showcase was not to be.  Varsity teams were able to play two games each, but JV/JV2 (Freshman) teams only played one each, so we’ll be refunding half the JV/JV2 entry fees to the participating schools.  We did nonetheless see some good soccer matches and once again received positive feedback from parents, coaches, and referees about our showcase/hospitality.  Thank you to all our volunteers who helped Thursday and Friday morning run smoothly.

District Play Begins This Week!

District Play begins on Tuesday, 1/21.  Freshman play at Jesuit at 4:15pm.  JV and Varsity will play Plano at Clark Stadium at 5:45pm and 7:30pm, respectively.  Our first home game for ALL teams is Friday, 1/24, against McKinney.  Freshman play at 4:15pm, JV at 5:45pm, and Varsity at 7:30pm.  ALL home games will be played at Eagle Stadium.  Come out and cheer the teams to victory!

This week also kicks off our Special Events Nights at Varsity home games.  This Friday (1/24) we celebrate MOM NIGHT.  All Varsity Moms need to arrive at Eagle Stadium no later than 7pm.  We’ll gather in the NW corner of the field and the Moms will be escorted by the players onto the field prior to the game.

If you have a child interested in being a Ball Fetcher for Varsity home games, please contact Allison Stal at allengoldcupclub.com.  Four kids are needed for each game, two on each end of the field.  We have four kids committed to the Friday home games, but still need one more for the Tuesday home games.  If more express an interest, we will put together a rotation schedule.  Some parents have inquired about ball fetchers for the Freshman/JV games.  We are open to having ball fetchers for those games, but historically haven’t had enough interest.  If you’d like to coordinate finding ball fetchers for those games, please let us know.

**We have been asked by Coach Williams, AHS’ Athletic Director, to remind parents that we represent Allen at both home and away games.  As with the players, parents are expected to model mature behavior and any unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.  Video cameras are all over Eagle Stadium, and any reports of questionable outbursts/incidents will be investigated and appropriate disciplinary measures taken, including banning attendance at future games.  Let’s have a good clean season and represent Allen and the AHS Men’s Soccer Program well.**

Upcoming Special Events Nights

Future Special Events Nights include: Friendship Night (1/31), Teacher Appreciation Night (2/7), Dad Night (2/18), Special Olympics Night (2/25), ASA Night (3/3), and Senior Night (3/20).  If you’re interested in helping coordinate any of these Special Event Nights, please contact Emily Leavitt at emilyeleavitt@yahoo.com.

Game Day Programs/Spirt Wear Sales

We need volunteers to pass out the game day programs before each home game as well as sell our spirit wear (scarves and the few remaining t-shirts) at home games and other AHS events (scarves). Please contact Laura Firch (firch@sbcglobal.net) or Kristy McBride (kristy.mcbride@sbcglobal.net) to help.

Team Dinners (parent-directed, not sponsored by AGCC)

To further promote team bonding, last year we reinstated Varsity team dinners on Thursday nights during the season. This year, we’d also like to hold JV and Freshman team dinners.

This week’s Varsity team dinner will be hosted by the Bernard family. Here’s the link to sign-up for the remaining Varsity Thursday night dinners (https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0D4EABA623A13-ahsboys).  This week’s JV team dinner will be hosted by the Sluis/Sanchez families.  Here’s the link to sign up for the remaining JV dinners (https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E4DA5A82FABFD0-ahsjvboys).  Freshman dinners will start next Thursday, 1/30.  Here’s the link to host a Freshman team dinner (https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0d4aaeaf2aaa8-team).

As you’ll see in the sign-ups, you can choose to host at your house or at a restaurant, and there are slots for families to share hosting, help, or donate to the dinner. We ask that each player contribute $5/meal to help offset the cost of dinners.

Banquet is scheduled for Wednesday, 4/22, and will be here before we know it. Please let me know if you’re interested in helping, we’ll be talking about it at the next booster club meeting.
